Fake news is not a new phenomenon but an extension of how information has been recorded and shared throughout history, from stone tablets to horseback couriers and telegrams. These residual practices, values, and ways of understanding persist today, shaping how we interact with news—whether by sharing it on social media, discussing it, or capturing screenshots to share with friends and family—often outside the bounds of dominant cultural norms.
